Nominees for board of directors - 2021-2023
- President |
My name is Chuck Kenney and I am the current Director of the Round Robin Leads for the Palm Creek Pickleball Club.
My wife, Yvonne, and I have been members of the Club for the past four years. Before retiring in Seattle, Yvonne was a school teacher and I worked in Sales and Marketing for a large Technology Company.
In my Professional Career, my responsibilities included meeting with Executive Level Customers, conducting large scale presentations, coordinating team member roles and responsibilities, recruiting and hiring new contract employees, strategizing and deploying large scale projects, conducting customer and team members meetings, managing an annual budget, coordinating retail locations and accountable for annual achievement goals.
I vividly remember our first year here at Palm Creek. We had never played Pickleball or knew much about the sport. On our first day we joined the club and immediately enrolled in the 2.0/2.5 Pickleball Introduction. We were hooked. Almost overnight we were playing daily. Within a few short weeks we were encouraged to participate in the Members Tournament and somehow managed to medal. Wow, what a great time and a true learning experience.
During the past four years, I have served the Club as a Round Robin Captain for several groups, a Line Judge for the tournaments, volunteered for court washing, helped with general maintenance and currently serve as the Director of the Round Robin Leads. I have also continued to hone my skills as a Pickleball player and currently play at the 4.0 level - thank you to all the great leads, assessment teams and mentors.
This year has been challenging for all of us. The Pickleball Club has continued to provide a safe venue for social interaction, growth within the sport, exercise and a positive impact with laughter and fun. I believe that the club has much to offer to our members and our guests.
Many give, and have given, so much of their time and talent so that we can enjoy this sport and this club. For your consideration, I’d be honoured to continue this club’s tradition and to serve as your next President for the Palm Creek Pickleball Club.
I have been Secretary for the past two years.
I am running again so there is continuity on the Board.
I also Love this Club, and Pickleball.
Over the last two years, I have worked closely with John Winston to get our Club functions online. This includes Round Robin Sign ups, and other events. I have also been responsible for Club communications. That means that I work closely with JM Verreault on the Website, and Donna Spinelli on the Facebook page. I work hard every week to publish a creative and informative Newsletter.
My husband and I have lived at Palm Creek full time since 2018. January 2018 is also when I began playing pickleball.
I am in awe everyday of the amount of pickleball knowledge that is available here at Palm Creek. |I will work hard to ensure the success of the Palm Creek Pickleball Club.
Hi, my name is Diane Martin, and I am a Pickleball addict . I am down on the courts every day in my happy place. My husband, Mike and I are currently spending our 6th winter here at Palm Creek. We are from New York where I am a North Mid-Atlantic Region USA Pickleball Ambassador.
I would like to be considered for the Member at Large position. I am an avid Pickleball player, volunteer mentor/trainer, line judge, and enjoy all aspects of the game , especially drilling.
As part of the Palm Creek Pickleball Club Board I would look forward to sharing my enthusiasm of this game by working with our members to help them grow and understand this challenging game.
I plan to be an advocate for all members, and look forward to having the opportunity to represent our pickleball community. I would like to place extra emphasis on our newer and lower level members so they have plenty of encouragement and attention to learn and improve, but most importantly have fun doing so. Isn't that why we choose to be here!
I work well with all types of people, those with different views, backgrounds, beliefs and ideas. I have been told that I have very good problem solving abilities. At work I was viewed as one of the few Supervisors/Managers that was approachable, would listen and take action on when appropriate the ideas and concerns of my employees and colleagues. It is surprising that there are some excellent ideas that people have if one just listens.
I look forward to working with the board and our membership. Am hoping that next season brings us back to more normal operations and activities.
When not here at Palm Creek in the winter I reside in Washington State on Camano Island spending time working on my property, boat, yard and construction projects. I also make some time for pickleball, cruising Puget Sound, the San Juans Islands and Canada. Have plans to start construction of a pickleball court back home sometime soon.
Before retirement I spent 35 years in transit and light rail. Worked as an operator/driver, Service Supervisor, Base Operations Supervisor, acting Base Chief assignments in both the transit and rail divisions. My last 7 years were spent starting up and operating Seattle's first Streetcar line as an Operations and Maintenance Supervisor.
Looking forward to an opportunity to work with the board and our membership.
